The Power of Drew Brees
(Friday Rant)
This week the power of Drew Brees laid down an ultimatum to the New Orleans Saints.
Brees is a free agent this season and he wants more money.
He wants Peyton Manning money.
Baseball rich.
He wants recognition for holding the single-season record for most passing
yards in a year. For being the elite quarterback that he is.
And New Orleans isn’t giving it to him.
Surprisingly, New Orleans has used their franchise tag on Brees rather than
Colston. After Brees told them he wouldn’t accept the franchise tag.
Brees is “livid” and he is refusing to sign the franchise tender.
He’s also skipping (so we think) off season workouts in April.

Before you get all worked up about him being “selfish” and “not who he is”-
think about this for a minute.
Drew Brees is one of the best QBs in the league. He has done everything for
his Saints. You might even say that he made them what they are.
He deserves that money.
And the Saints slapping that franchise tag on him? That’s cold-blooded
business. That says to Brees “your concerns will not be recognized by us.”
He probably feels like he’s been slapped in the face.
Is he overreacting? Maybe a little. Refusing to go to workouts is a bit
much. But asking for acknowledgement and further negotiation? Not by a long shot.
And the last thing the Saints need to do right now is tarnish their image
any further.
They are dealing with enough with “Bountygate.”
The loss of draft. Fines.
And who knows what else Goodell will slap them with.
The Saints better recognize the power of Drew Brees and pay the man.
